Perfume oil vs perfume spray: which should you choose?
Perfume oils and perfume sprays can contain the same scent, yet wear completely differently. Here is how they compare, and why many people end up using both.
How they differ
A spray uses alcohol to carry the fragrance. The alcohol evaporates quickly and lifts the scent into the air, so a spray projects further and opens brightly.
An oil carries the fragrance in oil. Nothing flashes off, so the scent stays close to the skin, develops slowly and often lasts longer. It is also gentler on dry skin.
When to choose which
Choose a spray when you want presence and a scent trail. Choose an oil for intimacy, long wear and situations where you want only those close to you to notice. Oils are also easy to travel with.
Why layering works
Apply the oil first to pulse points, then spray the perfume over it. The oil anchors the spray and extends it, while the spray gives the oil projection. It is the traditional Moroccan way to wear scent — and the most effective.
