Perfume oil: how to use it, and how to layer it
A perfume oil is the composition without the alcohol and water — undiluted, quieter at first, and far longer lasting. It is how fragrance has been worn across Morocco and the Gulf for centuries. Here is how to get the most out of one.
Oil or eau de parfum?
Alcohol lifts a fragrance into the air, so a spray announces itself and then fades. An oil stays closer to the skin, unfolds slowly and lasts through the day. Neither is better — an oil is intimate, a perfume is present.
Where to apply it
Warm points: inside the wrists, the neck, behind the ears, the inside of the elbows. Dab, never rub — rubbing breaks the top notes. One or two drops per point is plenty for an undiluted oil.
How to layer oil under perfume
Put the oil on bare skin first and let it settle for a moment, then spray the matching perfume on top. The oil acts as an anchor: the perfume still opens brightly, but the trail lasts noticeably longer. Start with the oil that shares notes with your perfume.
